The War Between Type And Image

For this project, I simply collaborated with an anonymous class mate to make a unique collage. It was to be a war. I was victorious.

Book-Off Test Book

These two pages were test pages for the sample book which we were to make.

These were two different versions of a test cover for the sample book we were to produce.

Jazz Band

Jazz band wasn't one of my favourite projects, but none the less I was abe to have fun creating an interesting instrument. I used a tooth brush to paint and used rocks and pebbles to make the shaker work. The finished product was named the Muhtumbooh.

Blazing Biography

This is some of the only information I could find on Johannes Wohnseifer. It took AGES!!! for me to try and figure out what one piece of art meant because of its deep meaning.

Johannes Wohnseifer like to recreate pieces of art that already exist and create something new. I learnt last year that all art is never a finished product. It can always be used again for inspiration or recreated and this is proof.

YES! FINALLY some more information on Wohnseifer. It wasn't much but it was an article of an interview which he had done.  This was the closest I got to finding out anything personal about Wohnseifer. And to be honest.... The interview wasn't GREAT. But I was able to find out some stuff which was useful.

So I found out as much as I could find about Wohnseifer. I thought it would be good to research where he grew up seeing as that the only information I got about him. Interestingly, the city in which he grew up in has LOTS of galleries which most probably would of been his inspiration.

My first real idea was to have a colour theme which would be limited to the colours of the german flag. I also found out that Wohnseifer was a minimalist so I figured that every design I create should constantly be reduced.

Looking at a few of the galleries I found in Cologne, I found that many of the have very linear structures. I made the connection that Wohnseifer is also like a gallery. Hes very basic with his art (Like the linear structures) but inside the root of his ideas are very complex (Inside of a museum/gallery contains a  lot of information)

Lately I have found working with lines, text and simples shapes can be very interesting. From the most simplest shapes and lines, complex and cool looking art can be made. Simple/Complex kind of describes Wohnseifer.
In the article about Wohnseifer he said that he recreated a piece of art to suit him. And this is what im doing here. Im recreating my version of Wohnseifer according to me. And this is why im choosing to use lines shapes and text.

Here is a simple design I made using lines shapes and text. Simply experimenting I came up with something interesting. So I think I can use this method to make a piece of art related to Wohnseifer.

Billy Blue College
This image uses simple shapes and colours. This is the sort of effect I am looking for. But maybe a bit more complex.

MUMO Interior
I recently was flicking through some websites and came across these cushions. The way the fabric has been used to make geometric shapes which are all different, but fit together, I found very interesting. This method is also what I am looking to achieve.
As I am looking to create a shoe. Looking at interior and fashion seems like a good path to also look into.

PLAN
This was a simple quick plan I put together.
1. I want to use the german colours for the main colour scheme. But i made a gradient so I can use all the colours between the colours of the german flag (gradient)
2. I want to use lines, simple shapes and imitations of measurements.
3. I also want the final piece to have some text on it. I recently saw a movie advertisement and I liked the classy but sophisticated font. I would like something similar or even better for my final piece.

LAYOUT
I would want this to be the layout of te final piece. The text will be decided later.

SAMPLE
These are two of the designs which I came up with. It has a complex look, but is only really filled with simples shapes and lines. An effect which I was looking to achieve.

Fabric and Cotton to make a unique shoe.z
Looks alright to me!

Holiday Havoc

So for this cool project, I decided to smoke. My first idea was to go jogging in the woods at night in PJ's but it was cold and after thinking for a while, I gathered having a cold over christmas was not my idea of fun!!

So this holiday I have been using my camera quite a bit. I think I am really starting to enjoy combining graphics and type with images. It interests me and seem cool.

But anyway back to the project! I had an image of where I wanted this to take place and that was outside of my friends G-Shock EAST shop down near brick lane. It is a pretty cool environment down there. Lots of different styles and art. The lighting was good. In each box i have wrote a little explanation of my thoughts at that moment. I have tried to use lines and good positioning of text to make the image look interesting and it came out pretty well. AND... yh....  that will be my last time smoking because it tastes awful. Yuck!

The Haymakers

Reading the brief I saw it say make artwork outside as the sun rises. Firstly I realised that the sun didn't rise that early in the morning so the first night i went back to sleep. I had an idea of making art using photography and me using an american football (Which by the way, I learnt how to throw) to create something pretty cool. However my countless attempts to wake up early were a failure.  So instead I decided to make an image of what happens to my body when I actually try to get up at ridiculous hours and make art. I think it was a pretty cool twist. Don't really know what anyone else would think but HEY... If you don't take the risk to try something different, you will never now.
